USS Enterprise NCC-1701

The USS Enterprise was commissioned in the year 2245 and according to Star Trek: The Animated Series as well as several books, the Enterprise was commanded by Captain Robert April before being Commanded by Captain Christopher Pike who commanded the ship for a decade before the ship was commanded by Captain James T Kirk.

It was under Captain Kirk that the Enterprise gained a reputation as a legendary ship with a legendary Captain with the ship encountering many challenges during it's five year mission including taking on a planet killer that destroyed the Enterprise's sister ship the USS Constellation, an Amoeba that destroyed the USS Intrepid, the Enterprise also served as a testbed for the M-5 Computer before the computer determined that the war games Starfleet was instead real leading to the loss of the entire crew of the USS Excalibur and damaging the ships USS Hood, Lexington and Potemkin, the three damaged ships would of been destroyed if not for Kirk reasoning with the computer that the killing of the crew of the Excalibur was wrong and the computer must shut itself down.
The Enterprise also investigated the loss of the USS Defiant NCC-1764 which was lost with all hands after going into a space rift and almost taken Captain Kirk with it before the Enterprise crew were able to retrieve him just as the Defiant slipped from normal space for the final time.

After Kirk's five year mission on the Enterprise, he was promoted to Admiral and replaced by Captain Willard Decker who oversaw the ships refit that virtually replaced the entire ship with new equipment but before the ship could be taken out an alien force heading towards Earth destroyed three Klingon ships and an Starfleet listening post, Epsilon IX requiring the Enterprise and Admiral Kirk to intercept the Alien before it reached and destroyed Earth, the Enterprise successfully stopped the Alien craft after Decker merged with it after the Alien needed a human and the Enterprise was once again without a Captain.

Spock then took over the Enterprise as the ship served as an training ship for personel enrolled at Starfleet Academy but a crisis with the ships old nemesis Khan, left Spock to give command willingly to Admiral Kirk and they managed to destroy the ship of their nemesis Khan but not before Spock sacrificed himself to get the warp engines back online leaving Kirk to return the Enterprise back to a Starbase.

 The Enterprise was destroyed in 2285 by Admiral Kirk after the heavily damaged Enterprise raced to the planet Genesis to take the newly reborn Spock to Vulcan for him to take his katra from the body of Dr McCoy, the Enterprise was met by a Kilngon Bird of Prey which previously destroyed Science vessel USS Grissom due to the damage Enterprise suffered against Khan and the automatation of most of the ships systems the Enterprise was no match for the Klingon ship forcing him to surrender the ship but not before Kirk set the self destruct while he and his crew beamed to Genesis, the destruction of the Enterprise killed the Klingon boarding party.
