Star Trek - we all know it follows a crew of adventurous humans going through deepest space, exploring the galaxy and meeting aliens. So does that mean that if you're an alien, you MUST be in the movie? J.J. Abrams seems to think so - rumor has it that he's wooing Tom Cruise to play Captain Christopher Pike in the upcoming Star Trek motion picture. And while Cruise may have earned the nickname "our favorite alien" in many news columns, we here just can't bring ourselves to call him our favorite anything...

What's really interesting is whether or not Paramount Pictures will allow such a move to proceed, even if Abrams and Cruise do reach an agreement with each other. Cruise's recent odd behavior has distanced many fans (including this one), and the studio blamed him directly for the low box-office draw of last year's Mission: Impossible III (also directed by Abrams). They've made it pretty clear they don't intend to hire him for any future projects, so how Abrams plans to work this one is beyond me. But if it becomes official that old Tom will be in this movie I for one will stop showing any intrest at all in this movie and the boys over at Slice of Sci Fi and Sy Fy Portal can woo their magic for you guys so you can get your Trek fix because you wont be getting it here.

So what do you think - coup for fans, or nail in the coffin???
